I have always been inspired by the vital role mammogram technologists play in healthcare, but my motivation to join the field is deeply rooted in my own community. Currently, my facility in Hillsboro only has one technologist. She is incredible and well-loved, but as she nears retirement, I realized that without someone to step up, my neighbors would have to travel 45 minutes or more for their yearly exams.

The GROW! Mammography Fellowship provided the financial support, and the confidence boost I needed to take this leap. It has allowed me the time to train directly with my mentor, learning exactly what our patients need so I can carry on her legacy of compassionate care.

One of the most memorable parts of my journey was attending the Initial Training in Houston. Stepping out of my comfort zone and into a big city was a challenge, but the hands-on positioning practice made everything click. It turned my passion into real, technical skill.

Today, I am 60% through my clinical requirements and on track to take my registry in April. This path has meant everything to me—it’s a major step toward my bachelor’s degree and my goal of earning multiple credentials. Most importantly, it allows me to give back to the women in my community by keeping their care convenient and high-quality.

To anyone thinking about applying for this fellowship, my advice is simple: Do it! I wasn’t sure at first, but this experience has given me a level of excitement for my career that I never expected.
