To make a difference is to create change, and for me, this Fellowship represents an opportunity to expand my journey both professionally and personally. As a first-generation college graduate, I have seen firsthand how furthering one’s education can open doors and create a lasting impact. I graduated from the WCJC Radiologic Technology Program in 2019, where I was honored with both the President’s Award and the Dean’s Award. Since then, I have continued to invest in my education by earning my certification in Computed Tomography.

I chose a career in the medical field because of my passion for helping others. Every day, I witness how essential radiologic imaging is to patient care, even though the role of radiology professionals often goes unrecognized. We play a vital part in diagnosis, treatment, and patient reassurance during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives.

​

I am now pursuing a certification in Mammography because I have seen firsthand how critical early detection is. Mammography is not only a diagnostic tool, but also an emotional experience for many patients. As technologists, we are often present at pivotal moments—whether a patient is returning for additional imaging or anxiously waiting through a six-month follow-up to monitor potential changes. As a woman, I deeply understand the fear and uncertainty that can accompany these experiences, and I strive to provide warmth, compassion, and empathy to every patient in my care.

Becoming a mother has recently reshaped my priorities and strengthened my commitment to building a stable and meaningful career. Mammography offers an opportunity for professional growth, while also allowing me to achieve a better balance between my responsibilities as a mother and as a healthcare professional. This Fellowship would support that goal by helping me advance into a more stable and impactful role within my field.

With certifications in multiple imaging modalities, I would be better equipped to serve my community and provide high-quality patient care. In my career, I have only been employed at rural hospitals and have observed how essential it is for a radiologic technologist to be efficient in multiple modalities! This Fellowship would not only enhance my professional capabilities, but also allow me to support my family and community more effectively. Ultimately, the skills and knowledge gained through this opportunity would enable me to give back to my community through compassionate care, early detection, and improved patient outcomes.
